About Us

Equality and Diversity

Introduction

Welcome to Whipps Cross Hospital's Equality and Diversity pages. We are committed to delivering equality of opportunity for all of our service users and for our staff and our aim is to create an environment where our staff and service users are equally valued and supported.

We aim to ensure that our services and employment practices are a true reflection of our commitment to promoting equality and valuing diversity. As a secondary health care provider and a major local employer,we recognise the important role we have to play in the wider community to promote equality and eliminate discrimination. To support the ‘It’s your hospital’ Patient Experience Revolution we have embarked on seeking a better understanding of the diversity of the population we serve with the aim to raise awareness, stimulate critical inquiry of current access trends and promote improvement in our response to any identified inequality of access.

Barts Health's equality objectives for 2012-2016

Whipps Cross Hospital became part of Barts Health NHS Trust on 1st April 2012.  We have now published the Barts Health interim equality objectives for 2012-2016. Click here for more information.

Public Duty

We take our obligations under the Equality legislation seriously; the equality duty to pay due regard to the need to:

(a)  eliminate discrimination

(b) promote equality; and

(c) promote good relations.

We believe that the recognising people’s difference is central to a responsive service that addresses the needs of all service users and staff.

Equality Schemes

We have developed three Equality Schemes for Disability, Gender and Race and each includes an action plan which shows the steps we are taking to promote Equality. Our commitment to Equality of opportunity extends beyond disability, gender and race to cover the other protected characteristics as outlined in the Equality Act 2010 i.e. age, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership maternity/pregnancy, religion or belief and sexual orientation.

Feedback

In our continued pursuit to become a champion of valuing diversity, promoting equality and human rights within health care, it is clear that a lot more needs to be done if we are to build and maintain a culture in which the promotion of equalities, the health, well being and safety of staff are regarded as an integral part of our conduct.

We are interested in hearing from you.  If you would like to express any comments or views on what the hospital is doing to promote equality, please write to us using the contact details provided below:
